Gävle Extendable Table

The Gävle is 190 by 95 centimetres closed and carries two 45 centimetre leaves in a rack beneath the top. Pull the ends apart on steel slides, lift the leaves into place and the table is 280 centimetres long and seats ten. The top is 30 millimetres with a square edge, and the legs stay at the four corners whatever the length, so the extended table still has room for a chair at each end.

Studio Vreta designed the slides to run on ball bearings, which means one person can extend the table alone. The leaves are cut from the same boards as the top so the grain lines up. Closed, it looks like a plain table, which is how it spends most of its life.
