Gnesta Chair

The Gnesta Chair pairs a steam-bent birch frame with a seat pad upholstered in a dense wool textile. The back is a single bent hoop that runs down into the rear legs, so there are no joints at the stress points, and the seat frame is slotted into it rather than screwed. The pad fastens with two straps underneath and lifts off for cleaning.

Havsbris designed it for kitchens and small dining rooms where chairs are moved a dozen times a day. It weighs under four kilos and the hoop doubles as a handle. Birch is close-grained and hard, so the frame shows marks slowly, and the textile is woven tight enough to shrug off most of what a family can do to it.
