Ornö Coffee Table

Ornö is a round coffee table in solid walnut, 90 centimetres across and 42 centimetres high. The top is glued up from narrow staves so it stays flat through dry winters, and it rests on a turned column that flares into a shallow dish-shaped shelf 15 centimetres above the floor. The shelf takes the remote controls, a stack of magazines and whatever else would otherwise live on the top.

Designer Lovisa Hjort drew the column so that it can be reached from any seat without a leg getting in the way. The walnut is oiled and waxed, and the single-piece base means there is nothing to wobble loose over the years.
