Hjo Chair

Description

The Hjo Chair is made from walnut throughout, with a back rest carved from a single thick blank into a shallow curve that meets your shoulder blades rather than your spine. The seat is glued up from two book-matched boards and hollowed by hand, then sanded until the edges roll away under the thigh. Four legs join the seat with loose tenons and are left square at the top, rounding as they fall.

Granit & Ek build it in small runs, and the walnut is oiled rather than lacquered so it darkens evenly over the first few years. It is a chair for a dining table that also serves as a workplace, where people sit for hours and the back needs to give a little without feeling loose.

Hjo Chair comes in Walnut.

Made to be kept

Solid wood and honest joinery. Aino makes chairs, sofas and tables to be used for decades.

Nothing here is built to be replaced. The frame is made to last, and the parts that wear can be looked after instead of thrown away.

Buy one good thing instead of three cheap ones, and keep it.
